Cunningly, the hormones released during childbirth - even if you have a section delivery, placenta detachment does hormonal things - make women very very trusting AND strongly disinclined to defend themselves. My own lovely midwife actually said "New mothers don't defend themselves. They just don't." Some women go into labour prepared for this - as I did - and summon up the nerve to say "Don't do that."

Most women don't.

So there you go.
