Linnea went on the helter-skelter and Emer went on the helter-skelter and all four of us went on the carousel and Rob and the girls went on the teeny weeny round train while I bought candyfloss and then we went to the penny arcade and Linnea and James played a hand-wound grand prix game and I got Linnea a lollipop with a claw and Rob got Emer one with the help of the assistant and Linnea and I went on the swinging boats (HIGHER!) and Emer went on the helter-skelter again and Emer and I went on the swinging boats (No get out! NO get out!) and everyone else got chips and I went on the chairoplanes all by myself.
It was very peaceful up there. The smell of the steam machinery stayed down below and the only smell that wafted up was vinegar from the chip van. The sky was clear and the treetops were green and I waved at Linnea a couple of times until she lost interest and stopped watching me, then I closed my eyes and sat there.
Which was fine until it all slowed down and my stomach said "You have been swinging me around for ages, I feel TERRIBLE." I'd have liked to stay up there, going round and round, for hours.
Many of the rides were older than our house. Which in turn is older than any of my grandparents.
