Or, at any rate, a Bad Dream.

(1) "I will stay awake now, so I can't have any more bad dreams."

(2) (Knuckling eyes, during but WHOLLY UNRELATED TO conversation about bad dream and there-there comforting) (very, very sad voice) "But Mummy, WHY can't you have sons?"

(3) "When I am Daddy's age I can grow a baby in my tummy." (Yes, you can, that's a very good time to do it) "and you can look after it." (Well, you'll be your baby's mummy, so you can look after it, but I can help) "No, YOU are the Mummy. I am the CHI-YULD." (OK, that's fine too.)

(4) "I don't want to talk about it." "I don't want to tell you what it was about." "I'm not going to tell you." She was also wise to indirect questions, and ADAMANT about staying awake, though she did tuck me and Rob up with her sitting upright between us. She kissed us both goodnight, too.

(5) "Babies don't have bad dreams, babies only have good dreams." (Do you ever have good dreams?) "No, only bad ones."

This is so bizarre. She's so tired. I wish we could stay at home tomorrow but I have to go to the dentist.
