I agree with pogodragon; the size of your house (or it's level of groominess) is really only one fairly unimportant aspect of overall standard of living. There are so many other factors that go into it as well, and most of them have nothing to do with money / finances. Though that's how I personally judge it, not how the BBC or whoever formulate they surveys you see sometimes.
